Representing the Class of 1993 at USIU’s 46th Graduation

Today, I attended the 46th Graduation ceremony at the United States International University, this time as the class representative for the class of 1993.

It was truly exhilarating to see how the campus has transformed while still retaining its sense of community. This place has had a profound impact on me. I recalled the Santiri where I completed my work-study hours to help pay for my tuition, and the noticeboard where non-compliant students were listed, a list I managed to avoid thanks to my negotiations with the bazaar and payment plans with my father. The once bumpy road is now a smooth, well-paved tar road all around.

I often wondered what would come after graduation, a thought I’m sure many of the 1,400 students are contemplating today.

What motivated me during my time here was a simple yet powerful message from Dean Dr. Lillian Beam: “Keep hope alive and pursue the American dream from where you are!”

This moment feels remarkably significant and remains somewhat indescribable to me. If I were to title it, I would say “what a start of becoming.”
